Brumbies

I don’t live in Australia
But have travelled there
And know
The extent of the great Continent
And its ebb and flow
From Perth down to Adelaide
And up to Darwin, I
Then across to Cairns and down to Brisbane
Which is why
I understand a little
And care an awful lot
And really love the wild souls
That the countryside has got
All The Roo’s and the Koala’s
The Camels and the Deer
The Dingo’s and the Brumbies
And the pigs and Goats
Its clear
The wildness brings its problems
And the settlements do too
But re-homing Brumbies
Really its a kinder thing to do

Trapping them and culling them
Or murdering them by air
The quick fix its so awful
Inhumane it tends to scare
The living daylights out of me
Your insensitivity
These God given souls
Have made their home
And its where they love to be
Seeing foals beside dead mothers
Really makes me feel
Consciousness Australia
Your decisions were they real
You call it aerial culling
Its killing slaughterously
For Brumby lovers exposes nerves
Such insensitivity

That mindset get the marksmen
In helicopters who
Sit there, murdering animals
For them its what they do
Sometimes missing targets
Injuring a few
The suffering is awful
And what do the foals do
Those who make decisions
Of this nature, clearly they
Are hard of heart
And sick of soul
And feel that its a way
Of eliminating problems
Of killing for its sake
Forgetting the miracle of life
Seemingly not awake

The cruelty is so immense
As sentients we feel
Probably more than the shooters
All are Wild and real
Australia you make decisions
About the iconic souls
And seeing the pictures
And feeling their pain
We are far removed from trolls
We care about wild animals
Gifted to countries who
Would rather see the back of them
Many it seems now do
Habitat loss for wild ones
With human encroachment we
See conflict for it changes minds
And creates adversity

Hunters like the killing aspect
But the majority
Value wild life its God’s gift
Its how it has to be
Its an education
And calls for integrity
Of understanding wild lives matter
And their constancy
Brings us new environments
An ever changing way
An attitude of sharing
A principled display
Nature and its countenance
Its reverential soul
The details in the being
Bounden to control

I stand four square
With wildness
And make my mark on earth
Every single animal
Comes and brings its worth
humanity is needful
Consciousness is to
Helping our great mother
Who now needs all of you
