“Angelo”

He was lying sighing
Crying deep inside
His owner seemingly had tied
His leg up
And denied,
to himself
That it was cruelty
Around and around it went
And, around his neck as well
And over time it sent
Him into almost terror
The agony severe
The wounds as deep as ever
His eyes so full of fear

We found him and we rescued him
Took him to hospital where
We sedated him and carefully
Removed the ropes, aware
he was
But lying still the leg wounded badly
Maggots were eating him alive
Looking at him sadly
We dusted the medicated powder
On and overnight
It killed all of the maggots
And we cleaned the wound
The sight
of a wound
Cleaned out and beginning
To heal was flushed and we
Bandaged it and every day
Did this caringly

After 14 days which time
ANgelo showed us he
Was grateful for the caring
And the love and we could see
He laid their quietly gently
Purring as if to say
He was so much happier
And more so everyday

We found him fresh green shoots
To eat juicy ones and he
Ate them with a relish
And rapidly we did see
His leg improved and his countenance
Just miraculously became
Cheered by all the caring
And really very tame
All our ladies loved him
Careessed him made him feel
Loved and cared for everyday
And it was very real

Caring aids the healing
And “Angelo” he knew
That sooner rather than later
He was walking too
Limping yes but walking
Good clean food and care
Brought him back from the abyss
It seems
And his story we thought we’d share
