A reverence for Cats

The Egyptians have revered cats
As Gods and goddesses they
Were held in high repute
And loved and cared for in a way
When cats were killed out of respect
They shaved their eyebrows they
Held them in sublimity
Forever and a day

In mythology the Goddess Bastet
Was respected and admired
She defended the sun god RA
As eye of Ra inspired
Ra tis said her beauty
Was beyond belief
Anyone killing a cat
In Egypt
Knew they would come to grief
On purpose or by accident
Prophesies were fulfilled
Anyone killing any cat
Would be at once killed

When cats died
they were mummified
And throughout history
Thousands upon thousands
Have been found and we can see
In museums all around the world
These ancient cats still lie
In permanence forever
And now we all know why

When they found the temple
Of Bastet
What they found
was 300,000
Mummified cats deposited around

Per means house BAST mean house
Bastet Thus became
A festival of Bastet
And each year
Pilgrims aim
To honour the goddess reverently
Some 700,000 souls
Enjoy the reverie

It’s sad therefore
Such great respect and honour
Seemingly
Is not maintained by China
And Vietnam who be
Consumers of these
Lovely souls
and the fur industry
Many shops in London
Abuse them tragically
Buying clothes and selling them
As Rabbit when they are cat
I have been at the front line
Exposing where it’s at

Faux fur it’s is often called
When only DNA
Can really tell which animal
hS tragically had to pay

24 cats for every coat
It’s happening still today
Something like three million
Cats are eaten so they say
The menu reads “roof hare”
Often on menu’s be sure
When choosing food in China
Such facts not to ignore

Back to gods and goddesses
Freya the goddess Norse
She used cats to draw
Her carriage she felt
Were better than the horse
Or so she found and who would
Dare to argue with her no
She taught ODIN witChcraft
and sorcery and so

Clearly was respected
It’s interesting though
Ra was called Mau
Per a cats purr
Bast a cats house
Miaow
and Purr for per
“Mau” goddess name was MUT
another word often used to describe cats
