“Heli”

Heli” was motionless
Lying in the snow
Bleeding the wrongness
You felt and you know
This innocent canine
A poor soul in pain
Had been shot in the back
Again and again

The lack of pity
To just leave him there
To shoot him and walk way
With such despair
Imagine that will you
Seeing them go
And you in such pain
And that no one would know

We were summoned
And found him
Still breathing
He was
Took him to the vet
Well just because
His injuries very bad
His breathing too
Needed attention
Apparently true

It wasn’t an accident
That we could see
Someone had shot him
A broken spine We
Were ever so upset
Surgery yes
His feet still showed feeling
Though he was in a mess

He has had surgery
And is coming along
We feed him by hand
He eats little and long
He wounds are now healing
It will take a while
His nerves clearly rampant
Must be off the dial
But he shows such courage
And it seems will pull through
Despite what his owner
apparently did do

Time love and care
Cuddles each day
Massage and massage
And just gentle play

Revealing that healing
Is coming to stay
