“Iris”

I want you to imagine
How it just must feel
To have your intestines
Hanging out of your stomach
Yes for real
Lying underneath a car
For shelter and for rest
Where you think you are safer
And it feel like it’s the best

Lying there the intestine
dragging along the street
The pain really must feel intense
How can they compete
And so off to the hospital
The street angels in tow
Surgery and cleansing
A puncture wound does show
A lot of external bleeding
But still the dogs alive
Out in the street alone she is
Hoping she can survive

Then she is in surgery cleaned and stitched
Up right
Coaxed with food to strengthen her
Sari love invite
Her to eat just try a nibble
She knows it is right
Iris like the kisses
The cuddles and the pats
She is boisterous and playful
She plays with pups and cats
Had we never found her
By now she would have died
And look at her
She’s full of life
And she now lays down beside

Us now in the garden
As we watch her rapidly
Getting better everyday
Every time We see
Her strength come flooding back to her
She has muscles she is strong
Now she’s been to hospital
Nothing can go wrong.
