The local hero

Six days it took him
From 6 to six
In a raging heat
With spade
and picks
Nicholas Muchemi
A labourer he
Rebuilt a road
Diligently

It seems a landowner
Decided that they
The people were using his land
And did say
I must block it off
Find another way
Down to the store
Get someone to pay

They lived on a hill
The shops down below
The church and the school
And the way to go
Was now so much longer
So what Nicholas thought
Was he would build the road
And it wasnt that short

At least kilometre in the hot sun
In Kaganda Kenya
And when That was done
He knew How important
Its was and so he
Is thought about well
In the community

Its was his assignment
His labour of love
A valiant effort
Seen from above
A real pioneer
In a go ahead way
To just make a difference
Starting from the day

They now need to gravel it
That can be done
The struggle was worth it
And it was fun
It got him involved
Under the sun
A deep understanding
An expression of care
An all their effusiveness
He felt it there

I mean its impressive
And dignified
One man on his own
His dramatic side
On show to the world
Reaching across the sea
Via the internet
Where its reached me

Well done Nicholas fantastic work
