Dugongs and turtles

Mild mannered and vulnerable
The dugong
And they are found
In the Torres Strait
Hunted by many
Apparently so
At we think an alarming rate

There are not many counts of the numbers
And poachers out there there may be
Despite all the treaties prevailing
Is there now a certainty
We know they have totemic status
This being the case it is key
The Western Province the PNG fisherman
Really how many now be

Are the great risks being played down
What are the checks being made
Are the boudaries considered legitimate
What of Indonesia’s trade
There is now, a feel bad factor
No one is quite sure how they
Are doing and whether its sustainable at all
And really where are we today?
