Water is life

We have lost all respect
For the natural world
For our forests and oceans
Where so much is hurled

Forests are logged out
Slash and burned down
And the timber sold off
Will not earn us a crown

The water thats lost
From intact forests will
Guarantee vasts stocks
Really until

The end of time
Its short sighted to log
Palm oil production
Clearly a fog

Descended on magnates
On the rich hood winked louts
Who defended their balance sheet
But now there are doubts

Not creeping but rushing in
Water is life
Without it the people have
Masses of strife

Cities will crumble
When timber is torn
For all intact forests
Still treated with scorn

Will come back to bite us
Our children no doubt
Will remember our arrogance
And how we did flout

The miracle forests
Life giving rain
Stored in their roots
A Great value gain

DAvid Lindenmayer
From the ANU
Knows about this
And says we must do

The right thing and save forests
Otherwise we
Will perish having wasted
A resource tragically

And it makes sense
Trees are the thing
They improve the soil
And to us they bring

So many advantages
oxygen too
So water and air
So what do we do

Chop down the trees
Lay concrete instead
And watch as more of us
In future lay dead

We will fight over water
That we waste all the time
The frackers their backers
Are creatures of slime

Wasting a resource
That our children will need
To pile up their bank notes
And think they succeed

So they made it on timber
And they made it on frack
But in ten years or so
There will be no way back

Waters true value
Far exceeds wood
When out in the outback
Wood is no good

But water will save you
Keep you alive
Without it none of us
Could ever survive

Trees give us air
And give us water too
Without them
Concrete well
It may cover you
