Invasive

New Zealand is at war
With invasive species
Especially those who frequent
The wilder climes
Use is made of 1080
Or sodium fluoroacetate
A metabolic poison
And a sign of the times

Its delivered by drops
From a single aircraft
Dyed bright green
To deter birds so I am told
Cereal baits of bran and sugar
And cinnamon do mask
The very special flavour
That might just call to task

The possums and the wild deer
And this appears to be
The recipe they follow
And it works too actually
Pigs are most susceptible
As are dogs and cats
Aimed at wild deer possums and rabbits
And ofcourse the rats

It is a splendid rodentcide
Its what you want to find
Whilst walking in the countryside
It does blow my mind
Baiting the wild unsuspecting
Who are foraging all day
And are killed off by a poison
Manna from humans so some say

When the target is unspecified
And just dropped everywhere
Its abuse and a perversion
Leading to despair
It violates creative life
It mismanages as well
And turns a natural wilderness
Into a toxic hell

But its easy and its cheap to use
And who cares clearly few
If you happen to be invasive
Then 1080 is for you
Typical government strategy
Murder all who crawl
Disable and imbalance
Thats their general rule
