The lions and the Buffalo

Botswana’s Okavango Delta
The Drama and the prayer
A pride of Lions so hungry
And a Buffalo Bull was there
900 massive kilos
Of muscle through and through
Standing in the swamp alone
What were they planning to do?

He was much too heavy
Running was not his way
He weighs much more than all the Lions
pay back so to say
A boggy base so waterlogged
And the 2 lions and their kin
No traction for either animal
As they begin to spin

One lion leaps high upon his back
And the Buffalo took the force
As Teeth sank into his great thick hide
Blood oozing From his source
with unimaginable strength
He Twists and turns trying to throw
the Lion off of his damaged back
And his gyrations grow

Such a thrashing in the water
Mud tossed into the air
Grasses torn a’sunder
Splashing everywhere
The lions are really tugging
Using lethal force
In the throes of hunger
Its all taking its course

The Buffalo’s hearts a furnace
Blasting too and fro
Tearing up the undergrowth
And was able to finally throw
The lionness off his bleeding back
Like a feather she did fly
Spluttering and snorting
High into the sky

Such a darkly hoarseness
Guttural it was
Both animals exhausted
clearly just because
All were really suffering
The stress levels so high
The shock and awe
And the blood and gore
For both really could die

The Buffalo though bleeding
His thick hide it would heal
He had that protection
Ofcourse the wound was real
But should make a recovery
The Lions were shaken, they
Clearly thwarted and frustrated
With nothing to eat today

All that blood and thunder
Is Played out everyday
Really this epic battle
Such iron will Paved the way
All of that tenacity
That single mindedness
Got him through the struggle
And the undoubted stress
