The poor old Giraffes

habitat loss
Is a key issue here
Humans encroaching
And spreading up fear
In the last 15 years
More than 40 per cent
Have gone from this land
They just quietly went

Unseeing in fact
These iconic souls
Gentle and handsome
They take special roles
In Africa land of the wild
Earthlings who
Have really such value
To people like you

Poaching is prevalent
For one gun shot
The pay back in bush meat
Is really a lot
In Tanzania right now they believe
Eating Giraffe is going to relieve
Sufferers of HIV a real pain
Their facing poachers
With complete disdain

140 dollars one head
A tail is supreme it brings power
So its said
Bush meat is thought to be massive
These days
And giraffes give a good return
So Shooting one pays

Niger is helping to fight off
The pain
Their local beer is call giraffe
Now a chain
of locals are
Keeping an eye on them, they
Are helping to conserve
the species today

The canned hunting evils
And trophies that spill
Now offer giraffe as a
Much cheaper kill
A number of women and others we see
Killing them bringing them
Adversity

The skin it is durable
And can be used
For clothing for hats
For bags shoes
Abused
We abuse all those animals
That we can find
Tragically soon
There will be none left behind

Camera’s more sophistication is here
Taking their photographs
To me that so clear
Its beautiful doing that
And leaving the gun
Out of the equation
And a few now have done

All of this action
This frightful display
Of trophies and hunting prowess
There’s no way
This is sustainable
Or makes any sense
We must tolerate
All of the species
The fence

Is constantly broken
Its constantly torn
We encroach on their land
Where they were born
We expect them to move
When we all have to share
The land we call
Africa and everywhere

Our arrogance takes us
Beyond what is right
Our ignorance tells
Us no matter we are right
But truthfully we have to
Now be aware
Draw back and watch them
And free up despair

The Giraffe is iconic
A statuesque soul
A complete vegetarian
Out for a stroll
A dignified earthling
An eminence too
With an aura of magic
That just shines on through
