Why so little respect for pigs

Pigs have such potential
In the main we underrate
Just how intelligent they really are
And What is on their plate
how we disrespect them
Ridicule them too
Farmers are off handed
And scurrilous in my view

Those about to be slaughtered
We write upon their backs
“For slaughter” often in blue ink
Our insolent attacks
Are unwarranted and cavalier
These animals they know
They feel this contempt
Thats obvious and our insults how
they grow

We load them onto trucks
Sent off to slaughter
No water and no food
Packed like sardines
Really it is an outrage
To be doing this
Its sacrilegious
And they know, what it means

In many ways they truly are lovely creatures
From afar
Dependable and wanting and
thoughtful in every way
We are cruel because alas
We take them through a dark morass
We lose sight of this true appeal
Bringing shame upon ourselves for real

In the slaughterhouse these days we
Hang them up for all to see
We fail to stun and what we do
Is kill them together that violent view
Shared with them of course its wrong
Their feelings for each other always strong
Dying together just shouldn’t be
Really the normality
