Veterans

On our streets

the veterans may

sit there homeless

everyday

veterans matter

for, when they

risked their lives

what did  we say

they were brave

they went to war

they followed their orders

they were not sure

they did their thing

and when they came back

what did they bring

terrible memories of conflict

to their home that now is derelict

the horrific stuff they did and saw

left them scars for evermore

the flashbacks came and the flashbacks went

it didn’t matter how content

their patterns of sleep

all over the place

the friends they lost

how can they face

the world at home

its hard to be

back in their community

and many now are lost

alas

on the streets

now enmasse

begging really

drop outs they

lost it all

when they went away

things changed so much

on a tour abroad

life changing stuff

and no reward

as I said before

they do feel lost

what they experienced

out there has cost

them so much really

socially

they need some help

they need to be

accepted again

they need that so

and for stevie nicks

to help does show

a goodly heart

and  a helping hand

and with her fame

a gesture so  grand
