Samhain

It’s the death of the old year
And the start of the new
Winter begins
And darkness does ensue
The frost it may settle all over the place
A time of death when
The spirits do chase

The souls of those passing
And those long time gone
Meet up and some interact
Out there upon
Let’s leave them some fruits
From the forest maybe
And light a nice fire
For the whole family

We sat by the hearth
The portal to where
The otherworld cometh
And with them we share
We look to the ancestors
Those souls we knew
Who went on their journey
As ancestors do

Sat around the fireplace
A drink and a prayer
Let the dead ones come forth
Let us all be aware
Of their presence
For with us
This night they will stay
A warm glass of mead
Before they go on their way

The spirit of Samhain
It comes to the fore
Outside its cold
Inside for sure
The embers are burning
The coals almost white
We feel them beside us
To see out the night

I sit with my friend
At the portal we share
Out through the curtains
The green fields are bare
Maybe the odd owl a bat and a deer
Look through the night sky
That’s now very clear

I will be on my way soon
To drive through the lanes
Where the rickety hollows
And ghostly refrains
Leap out to frighten
And cast their wild spells
And go back to their darkness
To the ringing of bells

I will sit with my love
For she is a wise soul
My book of shadows
Are part of the whole
That I have in this sweet life
To spend this Samhain
With such a women
With so much to gain

The thin veils are open
The spirits now glide
As Frost off the hills
Tries to muscle inside
I look into her eyes
And her heart I can feel
I am masked by her love
This fact I reveal
