Chickens that’s what they call us but are we really

our greed for profit far exceeds

the need to really be

compassionate and kind

to those we farm

extraordinarily

an ocean of writhing feathers

filthy dirty stalls

they are wallowing in excrement

putrescence kind of calls

some birds decomposing

or being eaten by

other birds contamination

in these great sheds high

unhallowed and unholy

malodorous, the mess

the sounds of squawking hardly walking

manginess no less

from chick to ready for slaughter

in 5 weeks, its a sin

they cannot stand to walk

their bones are just too thin

so many topple over and drop dead

on the spot

their hearts give out

without a doubt

for nothing have they got

a sea of dust gripsthroat and lungs

bacteria so much

really to do this to living creatures

we are out of touch

corporate enslavement

of the farmers and the brood

riddled with debt and mis management

on a scale that’s terribly crude

and they go off to slaughter

riddled with the dirt

festering and tainted

their lives each day they hurt

the buildings that they live in

are dilapidated and bare

full up to the rafters

and much the worse for wear

every where there are rotten bits of birds

lying about

there is such a vulnerability

a nakedness that’s out

of the  way and  going crazy

vast great sheds of crap

endangering the public

for in all that they trap

tortured and injured

and  soulless birds

who have just so much strife

they are all walking hazards

compromised in life

only fed for profit

and of course the knife

and cheapness

its the margin

its the corporates who test nerve

just blackmailing the farmers

who have nothing in reserve

they work their butts off daily

in the hell hole in those  sheds

in dust and filth and shit

out of the sick heads

sicko’s who think money

is the god to whom they pray

defying health and caring

for the opposite every day5 weeks of sheer torture

then off to slaughter they

are caught by all the catchers

piece work so to say

but in the great arena

most of the souls are lame

or their bones have

crumbled rapidly

that’s what farmers claim

dirty filthy food is sent off

to the abattoir

many of them already dead

from god knows what

to share

such vile offensive flesh and blood

with unsuspecting souls

who buy it in their fast food meals

is digging more health holes

infections and such allergies

bacterial problems they

might be thinking their  chickens cheap

but certainly they will pay

a high price in their internal guts

for the maggoty flesh they ate

for the husbandry that was criminal

and covered up in debt
