My names is chickety
I am a chick
I’m so excited
that this place I did pick
out of the window what do I see
a big bright blue sky
its a good place to be
I’m in the hatchery
I was born there
there was so much chirping
it just filled the air
I am now in a basket
with lots of my own
its warm and I can snuggle up
and not be alone
it would just tear my heart out
and its lovely to see
all the balls of fluff
which of course, now I be
it seems we are leaving
where will we go
I am a male chick
that much I know
will I one day
be a rooster so red
a cock that can crow
and be so well fed
will a I strut in the farmyard
with my harem of hens
I’ll just have to wait
but now I’m with friends
we’re off on a longish conveyor
it seems
a journey to somewhere
beyond all our dreams
into a land of sunshine and rain
with enough space to fly
and weight we can gain
chugging along chirping away
chattering happily
wanting to play
we are the Easter chicks
that’s what we do
we’re happy and honestly
we do love you
then we begin to slow
and we hear a great grinding monster
expressing such fear
great teeth made of steel
with gums too that chew
oh hell what is happening
ahead what they do
they are throwing the chicks into
this dreadful hole
I can hear all the bones being
crushed every soul
their tiny tears
their tiny screams
oh god what is happening
to our chickety teams
I’m getting closer
can I leap on the floor
can I get out of this
can I run out the door
is it possible I can escape
what appears
to be my death by being ground up
all these tears
I feel them they are coming
my little heads wet
will I be crushed too
it seems that is set
I leap off the belt
and crash onto the floor
and all of the others
there arn’t any more
just a grey residue
a feathery slop
dripping with blood
out by me does pop
I’m a survivor
and I’ve got away
but along comes some tart
with a bloody great tray
she treads down on me
wow! breathing my last
I’m as flat as a pancake
gone to and fast
