A fractured pipe wipes away a lifetime of dreams

Everything we have worked for
all the dreams we ever had
turned our peaceful haven
into a place where only the mad
could imagine
their idyllic home
was anything but lost
the house the land the lake
the lot
and the tremendous cost
was evidenced by the tumoult
the savagery the pain
as the crippling crude enveloped
and transformed our life again
into a hell hole from the idyll
that our place became
all those years of stress and graft
and nobody took the blame
we looked outside
and clouldn’t believe the ravage and the wrath
everything was swallowed up
even our fairy path
our animals all covered in what was crude
black oil
we witnessed our destruction
as our blood began began to boil

its was frighteningly obvious
that our future was now gone
our home and lovely garden
clearly one big con
had taken place upon us
our sheltered grove was gone
swallowed up by this sickly stew
that now lie thick upon

everything we ever had
the treasures of the earth
back breaking work for 30 years
and this despite its worth
ruined in a moment as the sickly carpet came
and converted what was heaven
into the holocaust by name

the birds the bees the animals
the barn the house the lake
all those glorious fishes
the wild flowers that did make
the banks and all the gardens
decorated by
the hordes of lovely blossoms
the apple of our eye

and now coated with sickly black
oozing and smelly mist
hangs like some great ghostly crypt
that the devil must have kissed
the harmony was swallowed up
by the rate infested pipes
great holes had sprung
fractures among
the rather older types

my wife and I are beside ourselves
our hearts broken in two
we still feel numb to just see some
and what we are going to do
to recoup what is our savings
the insurance tell us they
are not prepared to pay the claim
because the cost is really way

outside any settlement
its total loss and we
have to realise everything is gone
the agony
immeasurable and pointless
to even contemplate a settlement
in real terms
for no one can create

any kind of theory
as to how this pipe broke through
and filled the area around us
with what was crude black spew
sickly smelling and obnoxious such toxicity
and nobody is helping
we now where we be

everything is finished
our lives are ravaged by
the filthy Canadian tar sands
the dreadful constancy
of hell on earth remaining
where our dream home stood
all that work and effort
nobody now could

look at this and not cry tears
a broken heart too see
and could never walk away from this
sick catastrophe
this vile disturning miasma
that came down opn us and
spread its ugly grotesque footprint
right across the land
