A tag on my ear ( and a whole lot of fear)

A tag on my ear
a burn on my back
they severed my horns
and burnt the roots black
for my flesh and my blood
and my bones and my skin
they cart us to the house
and begin slaughtering

poke us and prod us
hit us and swear
the sun shine has gone
we are so aware
we are now in the tunnel
then led into the box
swung around upside down
and the strapping then locks

down on our heads
and then the blunt knife
saws across our throats
prolonging our life
a bit anyway
as they saw so the pain
as one’s throat is cut open
and blood starts to drain

gushes for a moment
and then you can feel
life ebbing away
it is, for real
the heart sounds like thunder
yes thunder to me
I remember my first love
and how she might be

my eyes close
my thoughts have shut down
I am gone
lost somewhere
where the sun never shone
locked upside down
my flesh on the line
just so you
carnivores can
on me now dine
