Chicks (Remember this when you enjoy your eggs)

their little lives
cut short
by those who sex them
I suppose
the females are
wanted for laying
the eggs
and the males crushed
there are constant flows
and long dregs
from the huge great
machine with
sharp teeth
that thrashes away
causing most of them
grief

no one cares about them
in fact most do not know
and its day after day
after day, and they go
some into bins
where the heaps grow and grow
some breathing still
My God did they pay!
they missed the machine
now they will pass away
suffocate probably
humans are mean
and their minds in a state
then it always has been

Go to work on a egg
to me that wears thin
when you take in this
terrible Corporate sin
Then their fluffy bodies
become chicken mush
and on into pet food
I feel the rush
derivatives that is the name
that is used
which in fact boils down
to them being abused
Can corporates be left
to waste life this way
each one had a heart and some hope
and does pay
males crushed at once
their melody short
females imprisoned those
cages are wrought
with space issues
improvised wire floors
that cut
the females find Hell
and they never will strut
their stuff in the farmyard
committed to be
slaves of the system
temporarily
a fraction of their real lives
let me say
for they die
in such agony
everyday.
and that doesn’t mean
they are taken away
they will rot in the cage
where they died
they will lay
the maggots will come
and will eat them away
and the egg laying
chickens
must live there
each day
its vile its insane
what we do to our food
how we let these birds suffer
I mean we’re so crude
we re-create Hell and
we wonder what for
when disease comes a knocking
on our own barn door
then its dish out the drugs
and the antibiotics
its done by the farm hands
they’re kind of robotics
no questions are asked
its a job with fair pay
keep your trap shut
head down
there’s nothing to say
.
